I am a social justice advocate who, while doing social justice workshops, realized self-examination required a level of clinical expertise and most participants are not aware that just as race is a social construct, identity, values and social norms are also influenced from familial environments, religious affiliations and cultural socialization. I attended graduate school for clinical psychology to marry behavioral health with social justice, to provide a holistic approach to social justice work. Understanding how you came to think the way you do, is helpful when trying to dismantle racism. Many of us are not aware of the everyday influences that feed our biases and prejudgements, nor are we clear on how we come to think the way we think about certain things. So, I am a therapist who does social justice work. The families I work with are families in crisis and I nor they have the luxury of skirting around the root causes of family disturbances. My expertise is identifying and providing tools for stabilization and recovery from traumatic experiences which are barriers to successful positive relationships for individual, groups and families.I provide a critical gaze to examining generational patterns that are detrimental to actualizing potential. I am a strength-based clinician, focused on trauma and its impact on our day to day lives. I have ten years of direct service experience, working with communities of color and diverse populations, to create a safe environment to explore conscious and unconscious behavioral patterns and if the client is willing to engage in critical self-examination, together we are able to build an understanding of behavioral issues. As this pathway to understanding is opened, the client is thereby able to learn new ways to address unexpressed feelings in more productive and beneficial ways.
