This workshop focuses on increasing equity in expanded learning opportunities by confronting potential personal bias to create a more inclusive and engaging program for all participants. For every child to access all that an expanded learning opportunith has to offer, every adult they encounter during their journey must learn to identify and overcome their own learned implicit biases. In this workshop, we will identify our social system’s core identity categories that create and maintain implicit biases. Participants will then incorporate that knowledge to evaluate past engagement strategies and develop new approaches based on current best practices.
Objectives:
• Explore areas of implicit bias when working with diverse groups
• Develop strategies to engage the whole child in a group setting
