Sport, physical activity, and play are powerful vehicles for social-emotional growth and positive youth development. Research suggests that including the voices of youth in the design and execution of sports programming helps foster the positive outcomes that can be achieved through physical activity. This session will explore program design strategies that incorporate participant input to create spaces and activities that appeal to kids, boosting engagement and retention. We will discuss how coaches and activity leaders can use specific strategies to allow students more choice and autonomy, leading to both improved skill mastery and enhanced feelings of belonging and empowerment. It’s time to make sport and recreation a place a where all kids are winners!
