In 2017, the Washington State Auditor reported that thousands of jobs will go unfilled in Washington this year due to demand for skilled workers, and a low supply of candidates. There are systemic inequities in the job market reinforced by the "opportunity gap" or the causal disparity between underserved communities and lifelong achievement. Youth-led internships can help bridge the opportunity gap. In this session, participants will learn about youth empowerment through service learning, youth-led decision-making, and community leadership in environments that encourage failing forward and 21st century skill building. Join Kitsap Regional Library and Seattle Public Library for a discussion on ways you can support youth professional development and foster the next generation workforce.
